The concept of personal cooling takes a revolutionary step forward with the ARC 1 — a Red Dot Award: Product Design 2023 winner. At its core, the ARC 1 leverages advanced thermoelectric technology to create a controlled microclimate around the user. This enables efficient, sustained cooling without the limitations of traditional methods, delivering consistent and high-performance thermal relief throughout the day. 

The Foundation: Solid-State Cooling


Solid-state cooling is a method that uses advanced thermoelectric materials to deliver efficient cooling without refrigerants or moving parts. Compact, quiet, and highly reliable, it is well suited for localized cooling applications where traditional systems are impractical — such as in electronics, medical devices, and wearable technologies.

The ARC Cooler leverages thermoelectric technology based on the Peltier effect — a core principle of solid-state cooling. When an electrical current passes through a thermoelectric module, it creates a temperature difference across the material, with one side becoming cold while the other becomes hot.

Its cooling system is built around three key components: a thermoelectric module, finned heat sinks, and integrated fans. When powered, the thermoelectric module generates the cooling effect. The cold side transfers heat away from the user through a conductive cooling plate, while the hot side dissipates heat through the finned heat sink. This heat is then efficiently expelled via forced convection, where fans direct airflow across the heat sink to maintain continuous and effective cooling performance.

Innovation: Thermoelectric Cooling Technology


The ARC Cooler is built on advanced thermoelectric cooling technology, engineered to overcome common limitations of conventional Peltier-based systems. While thermoelectric modules can rapidly lower surface temperature, their effectiveness relies on efficient heat dissipation.

This is achieved through an optimised thermal design that efficiently draws heat away from the source. By enhancing airflow through the device’s intake and integrating carefully engineered heat sinks with axial fans, the system delivers strong forced convection. This enables efficient heat dissipation, resulting in consistently lower surface temperatures and improved cooling performance.

In conventional designs, thermoelectric systems can consume significant power if not properly managed. To ensure optimal performance, software optimisation is incorporated to balance cooling output with energy efficiency. Through user testing, an ideal temperature range was identified, allowing the system to deliver a comfortable cooling sensation while minimising power consumption and extending operational runtime.

Behind the Developmental Process


Throughout the engineering development of the ARC Cooler, design features were continuously refined based on user feedback to enhance both performance and wearability. One key improvement is the integration of a lightweight aluminium heat sink with an expanded finned surface area. This enables more efficient heat dissipation while maintaining a low-profile design that ensures comfort during extended use.

The thermoelectric module has also been upgraded to improve cooling efficiency while reducing power consumption and size, resulting in an extended minimum runtime of up to 240 minutes. In addition, newly integrated axial fans enhance airflow for stronger cooling performance while operating at lower noise levels, providing a quieter and more comfortable user experience.

For improved fit and stability, the system features easily adjustable shoulder straps designed to accommodate a wide range of body types, ensuring secure wear even during active movement. It also supports fast charging, enabling quicker recovery between uses so users can get back to cooling when it matters most.
